The rankings
Jim’s Transmission Service on East 4th Street earned 332 reviews at a 4.8-star rating, the highest review count among Sioux Falls independents in this ranking. The shop specializes in transmission work, a critical service for vehicles enduring the stop-and-go traffic on Minnesota Avenue and the freeze-thaw stress of Great Plains winters. Warranty terms are not published on their site, so drivers should ask about coverage when scheduling. The volume of feedback reflects steady trust in a market where transmission failures can be costly.
J & M Auto Service on West 41st Street holds a 4.8-star rating across 200 reviews and publishes a 3-year/36,000-mile warranty, the longest coverage in this ranking. The shop carries ASE Certified credentials, a nationally recognized technician standard. Full-service repair shops like this handle everything from oil changes to engine diagnostics, useful for Sioux Falls drivers juggling rural commutes and city errands. The combination of strong feedback, transparent warranty terms, and third-party certification makes it a standout in the second spot.
Juhl Automotive Service and Repair on South Cliff Avenue earned 198 reviews at 4.8 stars and holds both ASE Certified and NAPA AutoCare certifications, the most credentials in this field. The shop publishes a 24-month/24,000-mile warranty, shorter than the top two but still verifiable before you book. NAPA AutoCare centers follow a code of ethics and offer access to nationwide parts availability, helpful if you travel across South Dakota. The dual certifications signal a commitment to training and parts quality.
Team Automotive on East 50th Street North holds a 4.8-star rating across 192 reviews and publishes a 36-month/36,000-mile warranty, matching the longest coverage in this ranking. The shop is a NAPA AutoCare center, which means access to quality parts and a national network. Fourth place reflects slightly lower review volume, but the warranty and certification make it competitive with higher-ranked shops. Drivers in north Sioux Falls appreciate the location near Interstate 29 for quick access.
Jay Egge Automatic Service on East Arrowhead Parkway has operated since 1988 and earned 164 reviews at 4.8 stars. The shop specializes in automatic transmissions, a focus that appeals to drivers with older vehicles or those towing trailers across rural South Dakota roads. Warranty terms are not published on their site, so ask about coverage when you call. Decades in business suggest continuity, though the lack of published certifications or warranty details means you will need to gather that information directly.

Common questions
Why do Sioux Falls winters require more frequent battery and fluid checks?
Subzero temperatures common in Sioux Falls reduce battery capacity and thicken engine oil, transmission fluid, and coolant. Cold starts draw more amperage, and frozen fluids lose their protective properties. Shops here see a spike in dead batteries and sluggish transmissions from November through March, making pre-winter inspections essential.
Which shops publish warranty terms I can verify before booking?
J & M Auto Service on 41st Street offers a 3-year/36,000-mile warranty, Team Automotive matches that with 36 months/36,000 miles, and Juhl Automotive Service and Repair provides 24 months/24,000 miles. Jim’s Transmission Service and Jay Egge Automatic Service do not publish warranty terms on their sites, so ask directly when you call.

J & M Auto Service holds ASE Certified credentials. Juhl Automotive Service and Repair carries both ASE Certified and NAPA AutoCare certifications. Team Automotive is a NAPA AutoCare center. Jim’s Transmission Service and Jay Egge Automatic Service list no certifications on their public profiles.
