About Fenkell Automotive Repair
Fenkell Automotive Repair is the most-reviewed auto shop in the Auburn Hills area — a 4.6 across 553 Google reviews — but the number that really sets it apart is the year on the door: 1932. Fenkell has been in business for more than 90 years, one of the oldest auto operations in metro Detroit. It started as an auto-glass specialist on Fenkell Road in Detroit, grew into full-service repair, and became the auto manufacturers’ trusted choice for in-transit vehicle repair — a heritage almost no independent shop can claim. Today it’s run by Brian Taranto with a 100%-transparency, clear-communication ethos.
The second thing that sets Fenkell apart is sheer service breadth. This isn’t just a car shop — it’s a full auto, truck AND trailer facility. Under one roof the team handles general and major repair, engine diagnostics and repair, transmissions (a certified Jasper Engines & Transmissions installer), electrical, steering and suspension, brakes, tires, exhaust and undercarriage, state inspections and towing — plus auto glass, windshield replacement, paint correction and bumper repairs. Very few shops in the area cover that much ground.
It’s also refreshingly easy to deal with on the money side. Fenkell accepts all aftermarket extended warranties and does the legwork for you — the shop handles the warranty company’s paperwork and phone calls so you don’t have to lift a finger — and offers financing, a nationwide 24-month / 24,000-mile warranty, a free shuttle, and a 24-hour drop box. Reviewers, many of them multi-year regulars with more than one vehicle in the family, single out the detailed itemized quotes and the no-pressure, explain-everything approach.
Fenkell backs the community it serves, too, supporting the Wounded Warrior Project and Pontiac’s Power Kids Company. It’s an Auto Wares Certified Service Center and BBB-accredited, serving Auburn Hills, Pontiac, Rochester Hills, Waterford, Bloomfield Hills and Troy.
Why we rank it #1 in Auburn Hills
Fenkell is the definitive #1 in the Auburn Hills area for three reasons. Most-reviewed: at 553 Google reviews it edges every other shop around. Longevity: it has been in business since 1932 — over 90 years, one of metro Detroit’s oldest shops and a manufacturer-trusted name. Breadth: it’s a full auto, truck and trailer facility covering everything from Jasper engine and transmission work to brakes, electrical, exhaust, auto glass and paint — and it handles all your aftermarket-warranty paperwork for you. A couple of shops rate higher on fewer reviews — McNeal Automotive (4.9) and grid-leader Al Dean’s — strong options both. But on volume, tenure and sheer capability, no other shop in the area comes close.

What customers say
“I deal with the Service Manager, Joe Konior, who in my opinion is very knowledgeable and helpful. When I inquire about an issue Joe explains and breaks down the remedy and cost. I started going to Fenkell years ago and take both my Cadillac and Lexus for service. As far as a rating from 1-10, I give Fenkell a 12.”
“Fenkell Automotive is a professional, clean, well run shop. The staff are kind, easy to talk to, and helpful. Turn around times on service are quick, communication is prompt, and pricing is fair and transparent. Shuttle available for customers after dropping off their vehicles is a helpful bonus.”
“I was able to schedule a visit promptly, I received a complete list of recommended repairs and was able to decide which repairs I wanted done immediately and which could wait. There was no pressure to have all of the repairs done immediately. Alex explained everything to me and my car was ready the day after drop off.”
“Went in for a serpentine belt replacement. Got some other things I need fixing but I really like them. Nice people, nice vibes. As a woman it's hard to find auto shops that won't try to rip you off. On the receipt it shows exactly in detail what was done. Highly recommend.”
