About Norwood Auto Service
Norwood Auto Service is the most-reviewed auto repair shop in Chicago’s Norwood Park neighborhood by a wide margin — a 4.9 rating across more than 750 Google reviews — and it’s the neighborhood namesake, family-owned and operating on Northwest Highway since 1989. Founded by Fred Scheidt and owned today by his son Erik, it has spent three-plus decades building the kind of reputation that shows up in the review count: honest diagnostics, clear communication, and repairs that hold.
It’s a genuine full-service shop and it carries the credentials to back it: ASE Certified, a NAPA AutoCare Center, and Carfax-certified, with a nationwide 3-year / 36,000-mile warranty on the work. The team handles brakes, shocks and struts, tires and alignments, oil and preventative maintenance, AC and heating, batteries, electrical diagnostics and BG fluid services. In the interest of straight talk: Norwood focuses on conventional gas vehicles — it does not do EV/hybrid high-voltage work, diesel, ADAS calibration, body work, transmission rebuilds or engine replacement — and it’ll tell you up front when a job is a better fit elsewhere.
What reviewers mention most is the way the shop communicates. Every vehicle gets a detailed digital inspection with photos texted to you, with an honest, no-pressure explanation of what needs attention now versus what can wait — the shop leans hard into customer education. It’s built for real life, too: complimentary Uber rides within three miles, 24-hour drop-off and pick-up, a comfortable waiting room with WiFi and snacks, text-to-pay, financing, and towing when you need it.
Norwood is genuinely woven into the neighborhood: a Norwood Park Chamber of Commerce member that runs an annual Women’s Car Care Clinic and a Student Driver Clinic, and supports the Ruth Project. For a Norwood Park driver who wants a proven, certified, straight-shooting shop, it’s the clear pick.
Why we rank it #1 in Norwood Park
This is a clean #1. Norwood Auto Service leads Norwood Park on the measures that are hard to fake: far more Google reviews than any other shop in the neighborhood, at a 4.9 rating, three-plus decades in business as the area namesake, ASE and NAPA AutoCare certification, Carfax standing, and a nationwide 3-year/36,000-mile warranty. Add the detailed digital inspections, the no-pressure communication reviewers rave about, and real community roots, and no other Norwood Park shop matches the combination. On merit, it’s the top pick.
