Best Auto Repair in Whetstone, Columbus OH (2026)
The 5 Best Auto Repair Shops in Whetstone, Columbus OH (2026)
Whetstone sits on the west side of North High around the park and the Park of Roses, a quiet pocket of Clintonville where the nearest garages are all a few minutes away rather than around the corner. The strongest of them is C.A.R.S., the Clintonville neighborhood’s oldest shop and its only AAA Approved independent. Five options, ranked on verified data.
Ranked on verified Google reviews and ratings, certifications, warranty and local track record across Whetstone and the surrounding Clintonville neighborhoods.

The shops, ranked
Walt Stein opened this shop as a Sohio station in 1962 and moved it to Oakland Park Avenue in 1970; the Clintonville Historical Society keeps the record. Sixty-four years later, under owner Paul Marquardt, it holds the largest review profile of any shop in Clintonville — 390 Google reviews at 4.6 — and it is the only AAA Approved independent in the neighborhood, approved continuously since 1981. It’s a NAPA AutoCare Gold Center backing repairs with a 3-year/36,000-mile nationwide warranty, and an authorized Jasper engine and transmission installer. The signature is the paperwork: digital inspections with photos of the actual worn part, which is what reviewers keep writing about.
A tire-and-service shop on North High with the highest rating in the whole Clintonville field — a perfect 5.0 across 280 Google reviews. Fewer reviews than our #1, but nobody here is rated higher, and that deserves saying plainly.
A veteran neighborhood independent off Blenheim Road with a deep local following — 255 Google reviews at 4.5. The kind of shop Clintonville families hand down to each other.
On Olentangy River Road across from the west-side ravines, Premier pairs tires with general repair at a 4.8 rating over 173 reviews — the handiest option for drivers on the river side of the neighborhood.
Up Indianola in the Beechwold arts stretch, Northend Wrench holds a 4.8 across 91 reviews — a smaller, well-liked independent covering the north end of the Clintonville corridor.
How the field compares
No repair shop sits inside Whetstone itself, so this ranking is about which nearby shop is worth the short drive. Several are closer to the park than our #1 — McQueen Tire is under a mile away and rated a perfect 5.0 — but every shop closer to Whetstone than C.A.R.S. is also smaller than it, with 280 reviews the highest among them against C.A.R.S.’s 390. Combine that volume with AAA approval since 1981, NAPA Gold and a nationwide warranty and the extra few minutes is the trade we’d make. If you want the nearest highly-rated option instead, McQueen is the pick.
Frequently asked questions
Is there an auto repair shop in Whetstone itself?
No. Whetstone is residential and parkland, so every option is a short drive out of the neighborhood — mostly toward North High Street or Oakland Park Avenue, all within about two miles.
Which shop is closest to Whetstone Park?
McQueen Tire & Auto at 3737 N High St is the closest of the shops we rank, under a mile out, and it holds a perfect 5.0 across 280 Google reviews.
Why is C.A.R.S. ranked first if it isn't the closest?
Because everything closer is smaller. C.A.R.S. carries 390 Google reviews, more than any shop between it and Whetstone, plus AAA Approved status held since 1981, NAPA AutoCare Gold certification and a 3-year/36,000-mile nationwide warranty that none of the nearer shops publish.
How far is C.A.R.S. from Whetstone?
About 1.8 miles — roughly five minutes across to 585 Oakland Park Ave, with an after-hours key drop if you need to leave the car outside business hours.
