About Darrick's Preferred Auto
Darrick Schewe opened Darrick’s Preferred Auto in April 2002, and for a while the shop was just him. Two decades later it runs 15 deep on the north edge of Blooming Prairie on US-218, serving Steele, Dodge and Mower counties on a simple promise the shop still prints: fix it fast, fix it right, and get it to you at a fair price. The other half of the pitch is smaller-town than that — they know you by name.
The credential stack is what you’d expect from a shop three times this size. Darrick’s is an ASE Blue Seal shop — the only one in the Blooming Prairie area, and per ASE’s own locator the nearest other Blue Seal listing sits nearly an hour away. It’s also a NAPA AutoCare Center (NAPA Gold Certified, with the 2019 plaque hanging in the lobby) and an authorized tire dealer for Michelin, Goodyear, Firestone, Uniroyal and BFGoodrich.
The service range runs wider than most city shops: general and major repair, steering and suspension, engine diagnostics, electrical, transmissions and exhaust, plus diesel repair, ADAS calibration, DOT inspections and a genuine rarity — certified wheelchair-lift inspections for Braun and Ricon lifts. They also run their own tow trucks, so a car that will not start can get to the shop instead of stranding the driver.
The customer side is small-town generous: free loaner cars, free pickup and delivery within reason, a snack-and-beverage station with wi-fi while you wait, your sixth oil change free, and a 3-year/36,000-mile warranty on the work. Every December the shop runs its 25 Days of Christmas giveaway for the community it’s been part of since 2002.
